Contest Categories

~ A Music Performance Contest Site ~

The Southwest Bach Festival is designed for music contest of the Baroque period. The goal is to promote the classical music education and building motivation for the young people to learn classical music. Many studies indicate that an education in music helps youngsters' concentrate in all other fields of studies. The contest contains over hundreds of categories that cover every age group and study level. We are focusing on encouragement for the music learning. Any constructive suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Prodigy Solo Categories

For superior students performing repertoire of a serious competitive nature.  The best four performers in each category will win a beautiful commemorative medal.  The first place winner of each category may advance to the grand prize contest. Performance consists of two contrasting pieces or movements, one of the pieces has to be composed by Bach, not to exceed 10 minutes total.

 

Open Solo Categories

For students performing works of a serious competitive nature. The best four performers in each category will win a commemorative medal. Performance consists of one piece or movement, accompanied or unaccompanied, not to exceed 5 minutes.  (Any baroque composer)  For Clarinet any transcript music can be used.

Open Ensemble Categories

For accomplished student duets and ensembles performing works of a serious and competitive nature.  The best four groups in each category will win a beautiful commemorative medal.  Performance may not exceed 5 minutes.  Age category is determined by the age of the eldest member of the ensemble. (any baroque composer)

Qualified Solo Categories

Selected repertoire for students with THREE YEARS OR MORE OF FORMAL STUDY.
See qualified repertoire list for suggested repertoire.  The best four performers in each
category will win a beautiful commemorative medal.  (Any baroque and early classical composer)  

 

Junior Qualified Solo Categories

Selected repertoire for students with LESS THAN THREE YEARS OF FORMAL STUDY, see qualified repertoire list for suggested repertoire. The best four performers in eachcategory win a beautiful commemorative medal.  (any baroque and early classical composer)

 

Entry Qualified Solo Categories

Selected repertoire for students with LESS THAN ONE YEARS OF FORMAL STUDY,
See qualified repertoire list for suggested repertoire. The best four performers in each
category win a beautiful commemorative medal.  (Any baroque and early classical composer)  

 

Qualified Ensemble Categories

Selected repertoire for small ensembles.  You have your own choice of repertoires (Any baroque and early classical composer).  The best four groups in each category win a beautiful commemorative medal.  Age category is determined by the age of the eldest member of the ensemble.
